The Wollensak Verito 7" f/4 Diffused Focus Lens is one of the most legendary soft-focus portrait lenses from the large format era. Originally designed in the early 20th century, the Verito produces dreamy, glowing portraits wide open, while delivering a surprisingly sharp image when stopped down—making it a dual-purpose creative tool prized by wet plate, 4x5, and 8x10 shooters alike.

The 7" (177mm) focal length makes it ideal for 4x5 and tight portraiture on 8x10. This lens features an f/4 maximum aperture, which is wide enough to generate that distinctive “Verito glow” that photographers still chase today. It covers 5x7 comfortably and 8x10 with a bit of vignetting depending on composition and bellows draw.

Condition: Good

This lens is in good condition overall, with fairly clean optics showing only very light internal haze—not uncommon for uncoated lenses of this age. The haze may slightly increase glow wide open but won’t significantly affect use, especially given the intended soft-focus rendering. The barrel is in nice shape with only typical wear for its age. Comes with front and rear slip-on caps and is mounted to a lens standard, making it an excellent choice for someone looking to adapt it into a studio workflow or large format setup without additional mounting fuss.
