Collection: Scan Only

Already have your negatives developed? Our Scan-Only Film Service is built just for you. You don’t need film development; just trusted, high-quality digitization. Whether you’re a photographer looking to preserve your recent shoots or a hobbyist with fresh rolls ready for archiving, we’ll convert your developed 35 mm, 120/220, APS, and other formats into crisp, high-resolution digital files you can edit, share, and store

Scan Only

Pick your film type

Prices shown are the minimum for that service, which covers your first roll, strip or frame. Open any one to estimate your own total.

What it costs

Add up the film you are sending and see the estimate. Each service has its own minimum, which covers the first roll, strip or frame of it.

Estimated total $0.00
You pay today $0.00
Invoiced later $0.00

You only pay the minimum at checkout: one per service you order. We confirm the real number once your film is here and counted, then invoice the balance before we deliver your scans. You are never charged for film you did not send.

Some film has to be camera-scanned

Film that can't go through our normal scanner — damaged, warped, badly curled, mounted, or an unusual size or base — gets photographed frame by frame on a dedicated camera rig instead. It is slower, and it is hands-on work.

Camera-scanned orders carry a $30 minimum in place of the usual minimum, not on top of it. Per-unit rates above the floor do not change.

We don't decide this from a photo. We look at your film when it arrives and send you a quote before we start — nothing proceeds until you have said yes.

What you get back

Scanning only — your film is already developed, so we go straight to digitizing it.

You get

  • High-resolution scans of every frame you send.
  • Delivery through a private Google Drive link. Your scans stay there for 1 year from delivery, so download and back them up before then.
  • Whole uncut rolls, cut strips, or single loose frames, in every format above.
  • Your negatives back, if you pick a return shipping option at checkout.

Worth knowing

  • No developing: your film must already be developed. Send undeveloped film to Develop and Scan instead.
  • No prints.
  • You pay the minimum at checkout, not the full amount: we invoice the balance once we have counted your film.
  • Turnaround depends far more on quantity than developing does. Ask us before sending a large job.

How this works

  1. Order and pay the minimum

Pick your format above and estimate your total on the product page. You pay the minimum now; your confirmation email includes an order number.

  2. Choose how it gets to us

Buy a prepaid label from us, ship it yourself, or drop it off in Tampa. All three are explained below.

  3. We count and invoice

We count what actually arrives and send an invoice for the balance. If your film needs camera scanning, that quote comes now, before any work starts.

  4. Get your scans

We email a private Google Drive link when your files are ready. Negatives come back if you chose a return shipping option.

Getting your film to us

Three ways to do it. Pick whichever suits you. Your order is processed the same either way.

  • Ship it yourself

Already have postage sorted? Send your film to us with any carrier you like. Use a padded mailer or a small box — not a paper envelope — and hold on to your tracking number.

    Coastal Film Lab
    1704 N Nebraska Ave
    Tampa, FL 33602

  • Drop it off

In the Tampa Bay area? The counter is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am–6pm, and Saturday 10am–3pm. Outside those hours use the drop box between our two front doors. There's a second one in the back parking lot. We develop film every day, including the days the shop is closed to walk-ins.

No shipping to buy. Just include your name and order number.

Whichever route you pick, write your name and order number on a slip of paper and put it in with your film. Want your negatives back? Choose a return shipping option at checkout. That's separate from any label you buy to send film to us.

Not sure this is the right service?

Scan Only is for film that has already been developed. If yours has not been, one of the other two is what you want.

  • Develop and Scan

Your film is still undeveloped and you want photographs at the end. We process it and deliver high-resolution scans over Google Drive. From $17 a roll.

  • Develop Only

Your film is undeveloped and you scan at home. We process it and send the negatives back, with no scanning. From $8 a roll.

Frequently asked questions

How does payment work?

You pay the minimum when you order, and it covers your first frame, strip or roll. We count what actually arrives and invoice the balance before we deliver your scans.

Every product page has an estimator, so you can price your job before you order rather than waiting for the invoice to find out.

Why can't I just pay the whole amount up front?

Because we do not know what is in the envelope until it is here. Counting frames from a description goes wrong often enough that a minimum now and an accurate invoice later is fairer than a guess — you are never charged for frames you did not send.

What does the minimum cover?

Your first one. Each frame, strip or roll after that is charged at the per-unit rate shown on the product page and in the price list above.

What if my film needs camera scanning?

Film that cannot go through our normal scanner — damaged, warped, badly curled, mounted, or an unusual size or base — is photographed frame by frame on a camera rig instead. Those orders carry a $30 minimum in place of the usual one, not on top of it.

We assess your film when it arrives and quote you before starting. Nothing proceeds until you have agreed.

What do I get back?

High-resolution scans delivered through a private Google Drive link: yours to download, keep, share and print.

Your negatives come back too if you choose a return shipping option at checkout. That is separate from any label you buy to send film to us.

How long do you keep my scans?

Your scans stay in Google Drive for 1 year from the day we deliver them. That is the same on every order and every service we offer.

Download your files and keep your own backup well before the year is up. Once it is, we remove the folder and we can't recover it for you.

My film isn't developed yet.

Then you want Develop and Scan, which processes your film and scans it in one order.

If you scan at home and only need the negatives, Develop Only is the one.

How should I send loose frames and strips?

Sleeve them if you can, or fold them into clean paper — never tape, paperclip or rubber-band negatives together, and never send them loose in an envelope where they can slide against each other.

Everything else about getting film to us is on our packing page.

How long does it take?

Longer than developing, and it varies with quantity much more. The turnaround posted in the banner at the top of the page is for developing and does not apply here.

Sending a large job? Ask us for an estimate before you send it.
