The Schneider Symmar 180mm f/5.6 Convertible is a classic dual-use large format lens. In its standard configuration, it's a sharp and contrasty 180mm f/5.6—perfect as a normal lens on 4x5. Unscrew the rear group, and it converts to a 315mm f/12 lens, ideal for longer focal length compositions like landscapes or portraiture. This flexibility made it a favorite among large format photographers looking to carry fewer lenses without sacrificing versatility.

This particular copy comes mounted to a Sinar Atmos 482 lens board, compatible with Sinar cameras and many other large format systems using the same standard.

Condition: Good

This lens is in good condition cosmetically, with standard signs of use on the barrel and board. It does not include a shutter, and would require mounting into a #1 shutter to be fully functional. The glass has significant haze, which may reduce contrast—especially when shooting into light or wide open—but could be usable for soft portrait work or experimental photography. Both front and rear elements are free from major scratches, and the convertible threads are smooth.
