The ProMaster iota 422 Ultralightweight Tripod Kit is built around a simple idea: the tripod that actually makes it into your camera bag is probably more useful than the giant one you left at home.
Constructed from premium 12-layer cross-patterned carbon fiber, the complete iota 422 weighs just 1 lb 11 oz, yet supports camera setups weighing up to 5.5 lbs / 2.5 kg. It folds down to 18.6 inches and is slim enough to comfortably carry in one hand, making it a fantastic choice for travel, hiking, street photography, vacations, and photographers who already have enough heavy stuff in their bag.
A Great Match for Compact Camera Setups
The iota's 5.5 lb load rating makes it a natural companion for mirrorless cameras, compact DSLRs, rangefinders, and plenty of classic film cameras.
For digital shooters, it's a great match for cameras like the Fujifilm X-T and X-E series, Sony a6000 and a7 series, Nikon Z5/Z6/Zf, Canon EOS R8/RP, and compact Micro Four Thirds systems when paired with appropriately sized lenses.
Film shooters have plenty of options too. Compact 35mm SLRs and rangefinders like the Nikon FM/FE series, Olympus OM series, Pentax MX/ME Super, Canon AE-1/A-1, Leica M series, Nikon F3, and similar cameras are right in the iota's wheelhouse.
It can also be a great lightweight tripod for compact medium-format cameras such as Rolleiflex and Yashica TLRs, Hasselblad 500-series cameras with standard lenses, Mamiya 6 and 7 rangefinders, and similar setups, provided the complete camera, lens, and accessories remain comfortably within the tripod's 5.5 lb rating.
Know When You Need a Bigger Tripod
The iota is intentionally optimized around portability rather than supporting huge camera rigs.
We would not recommend it for heavy medium-format systems such as the Mamiya RB67 or RZ67 with larger lenses, heavily accessorized Pentax 67 setups, or similarly front-heavy medium-format combinations.
It's also not our choice for most 4x5 and larger view cameras, particularly monorail cameras or setups using substantial large-format lenses. While an individual camera might technically fall below the published weight limit, total weight isn't the only consideration. A long, top-heavy, or front-heavy camera puts considerably more leverage on a small ball head than a compact camera of the same weight.
If you're building a substantially heavier setup, step up to a larger tripod with more load capacity rather than trying to max out an ultralight travel tripod.
Fast, Minimalist Setup
The iota is designed to eliminate unnecessary controls and make setup fast.
One knob controls the ball head, while a single collar controls the angle of all three tripod legs. A quick turn lets you transition from the standard leg position to a low, wide stance in seconds.
The leg locks are positioned so you can grab and release multiple locks at once, quickly extending or collapsing each leg without individually fussing with every section.
From Standing Height to Ground Level
The complete tripod reaches a maximum working height of 48 inches and can get down to approximately 8 inches at its minimum working height.
That low-angle capability makes it particularly useful for landscapes, macro photography, low-perspective compositions, and travel photography where you want more flexibility than a conventional compact tripod.
Arca-Compatible Ball Head
The included minimalist ball head uses an Arca-compatible quick-release plate, giving you access to the huge ecosystem of compatible camera plates and L-brackets.
The included plate uses anti-twist material to help maintain a secure connection with your camera and incorporates a slot that can be used with compatible camera straps.
Add Stability When You Need It
An ultralight tripod is fantastic when you're carrying it, but sometimes a little extra mass is useful once you've reached your shooting location.
ProMaster includes a removable stone bag with the iota 422. Load it with rocks, sand, gear, or another convenient source of weight to give the tripod additional stability when conditions call for it. Remove it when you're trying to keep your pack as light as possible.
The tripod's feet are also removable and use 3/8"-16 threaded connections, allowing them to be replaced with compatible alternative feet such as spikes.
