Polaroid Sonar OneStep Land Camera

The Polaroid Sonar OneStep Land Camera is one of the coolest evolutions of the classic folding SX-70 family, adding Polaroid’s wonderfully futuristic Sonar autofocus system to the instant photography experience. Instead of manually focusing, the camera uses ultrasonic pulses to measure subject distance and automatically set focus before the shutter fires. It was seriously clever tech for the late 1970s, and it still makes the camera remarkably quick and fun to use today.

The folding SLR design gives you through-the-lens viewing and focusing in a package that collapses nearly flat when you’re done shooting. Open it up, load some SX-70 film, and you get the beautifully imperfect colors, soft transitions, and physical one-of-one photographs that make instant film such a good antidote to taking 300 nearly identical pictures on a phone.

The Sonar OneStep is particularly fun for portraits, parties, travel, and everyday snapshots where you want the classic SX-70 experience without needing to carefully nail manual focus every time.
