The Olympus PEN E-PL2 with 14-42mm zoom lens is a compact Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera from the early days of the mirrorless revolution, and today it occupies a pretty fun niche. It has all the portability and interchangeable-lens flexibility the PEN series was known for, but with an older 12.3MP sensor that gives images a distinctly early-2010s digital character.

The PEN styling also makes the E-PL2 a lot more charming than the average DSLR from the same period. It is small enough to actually carry around, while the included M.Zuiko 14-42mm zoom gives you an extremely useful roughly 28-84mm full-frame equivalent range. That covers everything from travel and street photography to portraits, nights out, and everyday snapshots. Because it uses the Micro Four Thirds mount, there is also a huge selection of Olympus, Panasonic, and third-party lenses available if you want to expand the kit later.

For someone chasing the current digicam look but wanting more control and better optics than a tiny point-and-shoot, the E-PL2 hits a nice sweet spot.
