The Nikon Nikkormat FTN + Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 is a classic old-school Nikon setup from the era when an SLR was expected to be a dense little chunk of metal that could survive years of serious use. The FTN was Nikon’s more affordable counterpart to the professional F-series bodies, but it retained the excellent build quality, mechanical shutter, and access to Nikon’s huge F-mount lens system.

The FTN’s mechanical nature also makes it perfectly usable without relying on the meter. In the case of this particular camera, that is worth noting because the meter is functional but has a significant offset.

The built-in light meter currently reads approximately 3 stops under, so we recommend using an external light meter, metering app, or compensating appropriately if using the internal meter.

The included Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 non-Ai lens has a spot of fungus on an internal element. This may cause some loss of contrast, softness, or additional flare depending on lighting conditions, particularly when shooting toward bright light sources.

Overall, this is a solid user-grade classic Nikon kit with clearly disclosed optical and metering imperfections.
