Nikkormat FT: The Classic Nikon F Companion

The Nikkormat FT, introduced in 1965, was a 35mm SLR camera that offered a more affordable entry point into the Nikon F system. It retained the renowned quality and lens compatibility of its professional counterpart while offering a simplified feature set and a more compact design. This made it a popular choice for serious amateurs and enthusiasts.

Features:

Nikon F Mount: The Nikkormat FT is compatible with the vast array of Nikkor lenses, offering incredible versatility and image quality.
Durable Construction: Built with a robust metal chassis, the FT is a dependable camera that can withstand years of use.
Match-Needle Metering: The camera features a center-weighted match-needle metering system, providing accurate exposure readings for a variety of lighting conditions.
Mechanical Shutter: The FT boasts a mechanically controlled vertical-travel focal plane shutter with speeds from 1 second to 1/1000th of a second, plus Bulb mode. This means you can shoot without batteries if needed!
Simplified Controls: While offering full manual control, the FT's streamlined design makes it user-friendly, even for those new to SLR photography.
Comparisons to later Nikkormat FT models:

Nikkormat FTN: Introduced in 1967, the FTN added a hot shoe and a slightly brighter focusing screen.
Nikkormat FT2: Launched in 1975, the FT2 featured a more modern design, an improved metering system, and a wider shutter speed range. However, it lost the fully mechanical shutter of the FT.
Nikkormat FT3: The final model in the series, released in 1977, added aperture-priority autoexposure but retained the electronic shutter of the FT2.
The Nikkormat FT is a classic 35mm SLR that offers a gateway into the Nikon F system without compromising on quality or lens compatibility. Its durable construction, reliable metering, and fully mechanical shutter make it a great choice for photographers seeking a dependable and affordable film camera.

Condition Report: GOOD
Great cosmetic condition. The camera works perfectly, the light meter is accurate, and shutter speeds are accurate. The Body has many scratches and small dinks that don't affect the use of the camera but do add some character.
