The Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G is one of the easiest lenses to recommend for Nikon DX shooters. Small, lightweight, sharp, and genuinely fast, it gives APS-C Nikon DSLRs a field of view roughly equivalent to a 52.5mm lens on full frame, making it a near-perfect everyday normal lens.

The bright f/1.8 maximum aperture is a huge step up from the typical kit zoom, giving you much better low-light performance and noticeably shallower depth of field for portraits, street photography, food, travel, and everyday snapshots. Nikon's AF-S focusing motor also means autofocus works on compatible entry-level Nikon DSLRs that don't have an in-body focus motor.

It's the classic "first prime" for Nikon DX for good reason. Put it on something like a D3300, D5600, D7100, or D7500 and you've got a compact setup that can handle an enormous range of photography without weighing down your bag.
