The Nikon Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 Ai-S is one of Nikon’s truly legendary manual-focus portrait lenses. Fast, beautifully built, and known for its combination of sharpness and smooth rendering, the 85mm f/1.4 Ai-S has remained desirable long after autofocus took over the professional Nikon lineup.

The combination of an 85mm focal length and f/1.4 maximum aperture makes this an absolute portrait machine. Wide open, it can produce extremely shallow depth of field with smooth background separation and a distinctly classic rendering. Stop it down and it becomes a sharp, versatile short telephoto for portraits, events, detail work, and available-light photography. The long, damped manual focus throw is also a big part of the appeal, particularly for photographers and filmmakers adapting vintage Nikon glass to modern mirrorless and cinema cameras.

Condition: EXCELLENT

This lens is in excellent condition with minimal signs of normal use. The optics show very faint internal haze under detailed inspection. The haze is minor and should have little practical effect in most shooting situations, although particularly strong backlighting may produce a slight reduction in contrast.

Focus movement is smooth, the aperture operates properly, and the lens is fully functional. Overall, this is a very clean user-grade example of one of Nikon’s most desirable classic portrait lenses.
