The Minolta MD 45mm f/2 is one of the most underrated compact normal lenses of the manual-focus era. Originally designed as a lightweight standard lens for Minolta’s later X-series cameras, the 45mm f/2 combines excellent sharpness, beautiful Minolta color rendering, and an incredibly compact pancake-style design that makes film SLRs feel surprisingly small and portable.

Compared to a traditional 50mm, the slightly wider 45mm focal length feels a bit more natural and flexible for everyday shooting while still retaining that classic “normal lens” perspective. It’s especially great for:
