Canon FTb QL 35mm SLR Film Camera + 50mm f/1.8 FD Lens

The Canon FTb QL + 50mm f/1.8 FD is a great budget-friendly way into Canon’s classic manual-focus FD system. The FTb is a fully mechanical 35mm SLR with match-needle metering and Canon’s handy Quick Load (QL) film-loading system. It’s straightforward, rugged, and refreshingly free of automation, making it a particularly good camera for learning the fundamentals of film photography.

The included Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 gives you the classic standard-lens setup, with a fast enough aperture for lower-light shooting, portraits with shallow depth of field, and general everyday photography. This particular kit has definitely lived a life, but the important stuff is working. It’s an ideal starter camera for someone more interested in getting out and shooting than owning a cosmetically perfect shelf queen.

Condition: ONE-OFF

This FTb QL is fully usable but has several cosmetic and condition quirks that put it into our One-Off category. The light meter reads accurately, and the camera is otherwise functioning properly.

The previous owner’s name has been etched into both the back and bottom of the camera body. The viewfinder assembly has a little looseness, but it remains usable and does not interfere with composing or focusing. The included 50mm f/1.8 FD lens has mild internal haze along with visible marks from a previous owner attempting to clean it.

None of this makes it the prettiest FTb on the block, but it does make it a particularly affordable way to get into a proper mechanical Canon SLR. A great student camera, first film camera, or inexpensive everyday shooter.
