Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM Lens

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM is one of the easiest lenses to recommend in the Canon EF system. Small, lightweight, sharp, and genuinely fast at f/1.8, it’s the classic inexpensive prime that can immediately give your photos a very different look from a typical kit zoom.

The 50mm focal length is a natural fit for portraits, everyday photography, street shooting, low-light work, and video. Open it up to f/1.8 and you get plenty of subject separation and shallow depth of field without carrying around a giant piece of glass.

The STM stepping motor is a major improvement over older versions of Canon’s 50mm f/1.8, providing smoother and quieter autofocus that is particularly useful for video. This version also has a metal lens mount and a more refined overall build than the older EF 50mm f/1.8 II.
