Argus L3 Light Meter

The Argus L3 Light Meter is a classic handheld exposure meter from the era when photographers carried a dedicated meter alongside their camera. Compact, simple, and wonderfully analog, it makes a fitting accessory for a vintage camera kit, whether you plan to put it to work or display it alongside other period photographic gear.

The L3 uses a selenium photocell, so it does not require a battery to take a reading. Exposure is determined by measuring the available light and translating that reading into usable shutter speed and aperture combinations. It is particularly at home alongside older manual cameras without built-in meters.

This example also includes its original-style leather carrying case, which helps protect the meter and makes it a much nicer complete kit for a collector or vintage shooter.

This Argus L3 is in good condition with noticeable signs of age and normal cosmetic wear. The meter is accompanied by its leather carrying case, which also shows age consistent with a vintage photographic accessory.

As with any vintage selenium meter, we recommend comparing readings against a known accurate meter before relying on it for critical exposures, as selenium cells can lose sensitivity with age.
